Eugene Hugo established Young Africa Publishing in 2009 by launching South magazine into a global recession. South is a quality quarterly publication focused on the Garden Route and Klein Karoo. He was joined shortly after launch by co-director Juan Hugo, followed by Liesl Hattingh in 2010.
Eighteen months after the first issue of South came off press, its success allowed Young Africa Publishing to expand to Stellenbosch in order to launch earthworks – a national publication exclusively focused on sustainability within the built environment. It swiftly became a thought leader in the design, engineering, property and construction industry, landing a PICA for business-to-business publishing excellence in its sector.
Suna Dindar became a director in 2013, the same year the company moved operations to Cape Town to grow the team and product offerings.
